Through Coffee: Vietnam

Many people don't know that Vietnam is the world's second-largest coffee exporter, just after Brazil. But even more interesting is how coffee in Vietnam has become a way of life, not just a drink.

For a long time, Vietnamese people brewed coffee using a traditional Phin filter, letting it slowly drip into the cup. This method originated during the French colonial period, when fresh milk was scarce. To make coffee creamy and flavorful, people began adding condensed milk, creating a rich, bittersweet taste. On the streets, you'll often see locals sitting on low plastic chairs, enjoying an ice coffee while chatting slowly-coffee as a ritual, not a rush.
